Recently during icestorm needed to relocate my family due to a lack of power, and due to the holidays wanted somewhere close to all the stores/theatres/restaurants. The Pantages was wonderful on all accounts. The room was large, with full kitchen and even a washer/dryer and stocked with dishes/ dishsoap and laundry soap. The design of the rooms with a partial wall between the 2 queen beds and the bathroom far away (behind the kitchen area) made for a quiet night with no disruption from those getting up a night.
The beds were very comfortable, and the room nice and clean -- did not see any signs of significant wear and tear. Finally the staff were extremely kind and pleasant and helpful....when my power came back on there was no problem cancelling the extra night I had booked even though it was afternoon. Also, relative cheap parking is available if you self-park, with under the research building across the street being the closest. Large lot also up under Dundas Square, and valet parking also available. Hotel has room service and is connected to Fran's Diner which is also nice in winter, to avoid needing to go out for breakfast, and many many restaurants in the vicinity, as well as the Ed Mirvish Theatre & Massey Hall steps away, and the Eaton Centre. Would definitely return again with my family, did not encounter any worrisome characters and it is in a very safe section of downtown right next to St Michaels Hospital as is extremely affordable as compared to the other downtown hotels in the area.
812 reviews sorted by: I have been to many of the local yonge/king hotels and this one impressed me as well. It's all about location and this hotel also has a great location. A bit more basic in service and a few blocks off king, but if you can find a discounted price my experience was very enjoyable. There are kitchen suites available, I got one of those rooms on a higher floor.Very nice and fully appointed. Never had a problem with cleanliness or service as others have, but didn't ask for much service either. They were able to give me a king bed with kitchenette for the price I booked. I was very happy overall with my stay. Room Tip: Ask for a kitchenette if you want some added options. They even have a washer and dryer in those roo... I attempted to book a room at this hotel yesterday online. Their website gave an error, I call in to say how can I get this rate...well apparently EVEN THOUGH their website advertises the rate for boxing day and didn't bother taking it down they will not honour it.
No one called me back as they told me they would, and then I call again today and the guy says there is ABSOLUTELY nothing they can do. Well I will NEVER as long as live book a room in a pantages no matter what! I guess they think they don't need people's money! This was recommended to me by a friend because of the kitchenette and suites but I am wondering what he was thinking. The rooms were bright but worn out. It seemed like the laminate floors, tired and beat up bathrooms had seen an awful lot of action. We were left wondering who the target clientele were given some of the sketchy people in the lobby and elevators. There was certainly lots of action happening in the middle of the night. It is also important to note that if you are on the upper floors, you will have full view and sound of the emergency helicopter landing on St. Michael's hospital across the street. This place wasn't cheap and it should have been. This is the worse hotel that I ever have seen.I stayed day/night at Toronto downtown for personal business.
I reserved ONE night.but reception put TWO nights in reservation. Hotel was full of hookers and prostitutes at rooms and bars.I have somebody knocking the door drunk offering sex for money at 12AM.The night was terrible. 3AM left neighbor room and 5AM and right neighbor room was super noisy with sound of SEX.I left the hotel early in the morning next morning. 7AMwhile after some weeks I see in my online banking that the hotel charged me for two nights. The hotel servive even didnt help me to take my big luggage to my room. When I asked for internet they mentioned that I have to pay extra for it.Every item like water/tea/coffee in the room is not free you will get charged for themI contact the hotel manager twice. and he/she never call me back.I dont recommend this hotel at all to anybody. The hotel is near the Eaton Centre and the Dundas Square and it's really convenient. The staff was okay but it seems to be a lack of friendliness and atmosphere in the lobby. I stayed for business for 2 nights and I had an upgrade.
My (huge) room was fabulous! Great view on the city, clean room, lots of space and comfy bed. I saw in the other reviews that the floor I was on smelled cigarette. I'm really sensitive to that and I didn't smell it at all. This was my second stay at this hotel while in Toronto for business. This time I brought my wife and son with me. I stayed in a suite with a kitchenette and a pull-out couch. The bed was rock hard and the pull-out couch gave not support. After trying for one half hour to get ahold of guest services to get extra sheets for the pull-out I went down to the front desk to find the staff watching the Grey Cup game in the Martini bar. The WiFi in the room did not work and a table lamp had a broken cord with the metal plug ends sticking out of the wall...once again I had to go down to the front desk to get this fixed. The next morning it took one half hour to get in touch with the front desk to get extra towels.Dues to the issues with the WiFi the front desk upgraded our room at about 11 am, the new suite was nice but the mattress of the pull out couch was stained with paint or wine all over.
At 3:30 my wife and son were in the room after doing some Christmas shopping taking a break and the door to the suite opened and a couple walked in. The front desk had assigned them this suite after giving it to us 4 hours earlier. When my wife called down, the front desk said that the cleaning staff had not marked the room off as being occupied when really this was the front desk staff's responsibility. Thank goodness someone was in the room at the time. When we had gotten to the suite the room temperature was 26 degrees Celsius...after turning off the heat and opening the windows it cooled down to 23 degrees C. During the night the temperature with the heat turned off was unbearable and we had to turn the AC on to get the temperature down to 18 degrees C to be able to sleep in the rock hard bed. Both suites were also not cleaned very well with dust and dirt in many places...it was as if the staff only cleaned the main paths of travel and highly visible areas in the suites.Although all of these issues I described are minor they added up and the fact that the front desk was apathetic to our problems and did not take ANY ownership for giving someone else keys to our suite left a bad taste in my mouth.
